English Language courses in North London
If you are wishing to improve your English then Southgate College, North London, can offer you a variety of courses to choose from. These can often be taken in conjunction with other courses or studied as an individual qualification. Below is a quick outline of both our EFL and ESOL courses. English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
Southgate College in North London provides EFL courses, specifically designed for International Students at all levels, from beginners to advanced, who wish to:
  • improve their level of English
  • prepare for accredited examinations
  • prepare for the world of work and further study.

The EFL department is accredited by the British Council and is a member of ENGLISH UK.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
ESOL Skills for Life courses are aimed at students who:

  • do not have English as their first language and need to improve their English
  • live and work in England permanently

Many ESOL students qualify for free tuition. Your position will be clarified when you enrol on your course.

ESOL courses are very popular. You must apply early to be sure of a place.

Important for all ESOL classes:

  • You will have an interview and test to assess your level of English
  • You should bring all your documents to enrolment so we can assess your status
  • ESOL courses are free if you meet the status requirements

Our large ESOL department offers many classes at different levels. Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 of the Basic Skills Standards. You will be prepared for the examinations suitable for your level and there are good progression routes to other courses. The College offers excellent study support to all students in the department, and you will be able to take part in the College's social and cultural programmes.
